2023 Jamestown Easter Tennis Tournament

The 105th annual Jamestown Easter Tennis Tournament took place from Friday 7th – Sunday 9th April. One hundred and thirty-nine tennis players participated, with 491 entries and 291 matches played over the course of the weekend. Players travelled to Jamestown from as far as the Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula and Adelaide for a weekend of competition and fun. The event was well supported by a number of Adelaide Tennis Clubs including Denman, Enfield, Peake Gardens and Warradale Tennis Clubs. The tournament catered for Juniors, Open and Veteran events. All twelve lawn courts were used over the weekend, and with player numbers high, the six hard courts were also utilised throughout the event.

Sunday was finals day and many tightly contested matches occurred. Winners of the Open Championship Singles went to Michael Thomas (Peake Gardens Tennis Club) and Jacqui Scott (Denman Tennis Club). Local Jamestown tennis players performed well: Chris Stacey – Winner Men’s Veteran Champ Doubles; David Klingner – Runner-Up Men’s Veteran Singles; Adrian McCarthy – Runner-up Men’s Veteran Champ Doubles; Ethan McCarthy & Hugh Sutter – Runner-up 11&U Boys Doubles.

The tournament concluded with presentations and dinner at Maple & Pine, Bundaleer, which was a fantastic opportunity to kick back and relax with new and old friends. Congratulations to Kate Millard, recipient of the Luke James Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship. This award recognises a senior player who epitomises the Jamestown Easter Tennis Tournament in the way Luke did – someone who was there to play plenty of tennis, but also to have fun; someone easy to work with from the tournament room perspective; and someone showing good sportsmanship and friendliness both on and off the court.

A huge thank you to the many Jamestown locals who worked tirelessly for the duration of the weekend in the tournament room, kitchen, bar and grounds. Thank you to the many volunteers who baked or donated food for the canteen.
