The Jamestown Journal would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and close friends of Peter Kitschke.
One of the State’s most accomplished country footballers, Peter’s remarkable involvement in the game spanned more than 50 years before his induction to the SA Football Hall of Fame in 2005.
A Life Member of Jamestown FC, Peter won an incredible seven Mail Medals in the Northern Areas Football Association whilst also being runner-up on five occasions.
Peter won his handful of Mail Medals in 1957, 62,63,66 and 1974.
He was runner up 1952. 1958. 1961
1964, 1969 and 1971 and third in 1960, 1965 and 1970.
He won Jamestown Best and fairest 13 times.
Captained the club for 7 years and coached for 13.
The completely fearless centre half forward/ruck rover stood 178cm and
tipped the scales at 82 kilos.
He was accredited with 577 games when he retired in 1974, at the age of 43.
He won his fifth medal in that year,
becoming the oldest player to do so.
He appeared in 12 Grand Finals,receiving pennants in 1958, 1959,1961 and 1968, being Jamestown coach in the latter year.
Peter coached Northern Areas for a number of years,leading them to Shield wins in 1964 and 1965. Information is from NAFA & SANFL
Peter’s funeral was held at the St James Catholic Chruch on Wednesday 11th May and the turn out at his funeral was a clear indication of how appreciated and admired he was in the local community and football community. x
