Our local sporting talents are doing the region proud, Jamestown’s Maggie Clark has been in South Africa since early January competing in the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2023 Team for Australia. Scoring herself Player of the Match in their second round against the US winning by 1 point. Unfortunately a loss on Friday 27th Jan against England saw the Aussies out for the competition, but a fantastic experience for Maggie and her team mates, we wish her well for a big future in Cricket.
Whilst Maggie is taking on one Continent another local boy from Caltowie took the Lawn Bowls world by storm in New Zealand. Nathan Black and playing partner Cohen Litfin claimed the illustrious Division 1 crown for Australia in the 2023 Burnside Pairs. Litfin and Black were still yet to suffer a blemish heading into the final day’s play and maintained that record through their post sectional pool with an 18-10 victory over Andy McLean and Brent McEwan to book passage into the semifinals.
Black and Litfin’s opponents in the decider were Richard Hocking and Barry Williams, who accounted for Jackaroos Kylie Whitehead and Dawn Hayman in the semifinals by eight shots. The decider went back and forth but the Australians found the momentum to possess a three-shot buffer with an end to play. That margin proved to be more than enough as the pair claimed a 12-10 win to cap off a magnificent week that they will never forget.

Congratulations Nathan and Cohen, keep on rolling those winners.
