Jamestown Easter Tennis Tournament

The annual Jamestown Easter Tennis Tournament took place from Friday 29th – Sunday 31st March. One hundred and thirty-five tennis players participated, with 464 entries and 271 matches played on the pristine lawn courts over the course of the three-day tournament. Players travelled to Jamestown from all over the state for a weekend of competition and fun. The event was well supported by a number of Adelaide Tennis Clubs including Denman, Enfield, Peake Gardens and Warradale as well as the rural clubs of Minlaton, Port Lincoln, Tumby Bay, Cummins, Wirrulla and Piednippie. The tournament catered for Juniors, Open and Veteran events in champ, handicap and Fast4 formats.

The three days of play were warm and sunny before a couple of heavy downpours during the final matches, resulting in stoppages of play. The tournament concluded with presentations and dinner at the Jamestown Lawn Tennis Club, which was a fantastic opportunity for players and supporters to kick back and relax with new and old friends.

Winners of the Open Championship Singles were Adam Alessandrini (Trinity Gardens Tennis Club) and Jacqui Scott (Denman Tennis Club). Many tennis players with Jamestown connections performed well at the tournament: Chris Stacey – Men’s Veteran Champ Doubles Finalist (final abandoned due to rain); Jeremy Bell – Men’s Champ Doubles Winner; Kate Fitzgerald – Women’s Champ Singles Runner-Up; Abbie McCarthy & Kate Fitzgerald – Women’s Fast 4 Doubles Winners; Kate Millard & Adrian Boulton – Veteran Mixed Doubles Winners; Kate Millard & Louise Woolford – Women’s Veteran Doubles Runners-Up; Kate Millard & Harry Millard – Mixed Handicap Doubles Runners-Up; Harry Millard – 15&U Boys Doubles Winners; Harriet Stacey –11&U Singles Runner-Up; Ethan McCarthy & Hugh Sutter –11&U Boys Doubles Runners-Up; Hugh Sutter – 11&U Singles Runner-Up.

Congratulations to Alex Haskell (Peake Gardens Tennis Club), recipient of the Luke James Memorial Trophy for sportsmanship. This award recognises a senior player who epitomises the Jamestown Easter Tennis Tournament in the way Luke did – someone who was there to play plenty of tennis, but also to have fun; someone easy to work with from the tournament room perspective; and someone showing good sportsmanship and friendliness both on and off the court.

Rosalie Dibben was awarded the Ted Mason Service Award by the Jamestown Lawn Tennis Club for her outstanding voluntary contribution in the tournament room over many Jamestown Easter Tennis Tournaments.

A huge thank you to the team of helpers who worked tirelessly for the duration of the weekend in the tournament room, canteen, bar, cleaning, and court preparations. Thank you to the volunteers who baked or donated food for the canteen.
