The Jamestown Lymphoedema Clinic would like to thank the Jamestown Cancer Council for their kind donation to purchase a new lymphoedema compression pump for the clinic.
Lymphoedema is a long-term condition that causes swelling in body’s tissues. It can affect any part of the body, but usually develops in the arms and legs. It develops when the lymphatic system does not work properly. It is most commonly caused by removal or damage to the lymph nodes as part of cancer treatment.
Lymphoedema Therapist, Margaret Arnold said” Kate and I are thrilled to receive this kind donation- the old lymphoedema compression pump could only treat upper limb lymphoedema- with this new device we will be able to treat both lower and upper limb lymphoedema.
The Jamestown Lymphoedema clinic provides education on how to best self-manage lymphoedema as well as other therapies of manual lymphatic drainage and laser therapy.
The clinic is now open on Tuesday and by appointment.
A doctor’s referral is needed, and appointments can be made by contacting the Jamestown Hospital on 86 641 046
