Jamestown held their annual race meet on Saturday 1 October 2022, with perfect conditions for a our second successive sell-out crowd. The sun was shining which encouraged families and punters to venture to the racecourse for the afternoon.
Life memberships to the Jamestown Racing Club were presented by Chairman Phillip Dibben to Denis Clark and Clive Swan in recognition of their work over many years. Clive has been involved with the club since 1980, with Denis joining in 1982.
Six-year-old bay gelding Kalamon, trained by Richard and Chantelle Jolly and ridden by Jade Hampton won the 1800 metre Coopers Railway Hotel Jamestown Cup. With three wins for the day, Jade was also awarded the Caitlin Forrest Memorial Trophy. The award is in remembrance of Caitlin who had ridden at Jamestown – winning three of her four races – only weeks before she died from injuries sustained in a race fall at Murray Bridge. Richard and Chantelle Jolly were also awarded leading trainers for the 2022 Jamestown Races.
Fashions on the Field again proved popular. Winner went to local entrant Vanessa Duke with runner-up Rebekah Hudson. Millenary was taken out by Mardi Wilson and her husband Darren was the winner in the men’s category. Best Shoes Alyson Crozier and the junior section was taken out by Anna Venning.
The club tried a number of new initiatives this year, with the introduction of the “Tack Room” and foot race was conducted for the first time after the horses were done. There were children’s, women’s and men’s races.
