Jamestown Show – 150 Years of Country, Community and Tradition

The Jamestown Show is almost here, and as the community prepares to celebrate a remarkable 150 years, there is plenty to look forward to across both days of this much-loved annual event.

This year’s milestone Show promises something for everyone, with families encouraged to start planning, baking, preparing entries and, of course, saving some pocket money for the rides.

The Jamestown Show has always been about bringing the community together, showcasing local talent, agriculture, livestock and produce, while providing a weekend of entertainment for people of all ages. The 150th Show will continue that tradition with a huge range of activities and entertainment across the weekend.

Children and families will be well catered for, with kids’ shearing, speed shear and sports shear, face painting, rides, the Drumming Monkeys, a petting zoo, maze, remote control cars and plenty of other kids’ activities to enjoy.

The Show will also showcase the skills, determination and competitive spirit that have been part of Jamestown’s agricultural community for generations.

Sunday night will bring the weekend to a spectacular finish, with a live band, pedal shearing, Cow Pat Lotto, the car pull and kids’ car pull, the Roll to Win Tyre Race and a big fireworks display. It will be a night of entertainment, competition and plenty of fun for the whole community.

Reaching 150 Shows is an extraordinary achievement and one that reflects the dedication of generations of volunteers and community members.

Throughout the Show’s history, there have been 62 Presidents, 24 Secretaries and 13 Patrons, along with 47 Life Members and 27 Service Award recipients. Each has played an important role in helping shape the Show into what it is today.

Remarkably, in 150 years, the Jamestown Show has only been cancelled three times. The first was in 1948 due to weather, followed by cancellations in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19. The latter two cancellations occurred during the current President’s term.

While the Show did not go ahead on those occasions, the work behind the scenes certainly did. Planning, organising and preparing for a Show that ultimately could not take place still required an enormous commitment from the committee and volunteers, with the work arguably being just as significant, if not more so, than that required for a successful Show.

As Jamestown celebrates this incredible milestone, the committee extends its sincere thanks to every person who has contributed to the Show over the past 150 years.

From volunteers and committee members to competitors, exhibitors, families, supporters and the wider community, this celebration belongs to everyone who has helped keep the tradition alive.

A special thank you also goes to the many sponsors who have supported the Jamestown Show throughout its long history. Their generosity and continued support have helped make the Show possible year after year.

The 150th Jamestown Show is more than a celebration of an event; it is a celebration of the people, community and traditions that have made it possible for 150 years.

With a full weekend of entertainment, competition and family fun planned, the countdown is on. Jamestown is ready to celebrate 150 years of country, community and tradition.
