2021 has been a challenging year for fundraising groups, Covid has continued to have a considerable impact. Thanks to some lateral thinking and a Committee dedicated to finding solutions rather than getting stuck on the problems, our RFDS Support Group has been able to exceed its fundraising target. This would not be possible without the generous support we receive from the wider community.
Our reinvented Ball was a highlight for several reasons. I am very proud of the way the Committee worked through all the hurdles encountered to create an event none of us would have imagined 2 years ago. The interest within the community and the conversations the Ball generated were phenomenal, increasing our profile so much was a benefit we did not expect. The feedback we received and the success of the night ensures we will be looking at incorporating this again in the future.
Our Wine Drive and Meal Drop again proved popular and well worth doing. Added to these were selling drinks & stubby holders at the Farmer’s Day and picking up $200 in the catching competition, thanks to the safe hands of our catcher. We also saw the return of Badge Day after being cancelled last year due to Covid.
We have continued to receive strong support out in the community, all those who volunteer to help us when needed are deeply appreciated and provide essential support to our committee. Thank you to all who make up the Committee, but especially to our executive and to Rick and Liz for continuing to host our meetings in their home. We have farewelled a few long standing committee members this year in Jeff & Megan Rowe, Nick Redden and Deb McCarthy. Their input over the years has been invaluable and I’d like to say thank you Jeff, Megan, Nick & Deb for your services to the Group.
Earlier this year we were able to present RFDS Central Operations with a cheque for $25,000 and then a further $15,000 was presented to Lindy Allchurch at our recent AGM. These funds go directly towards operational costs for the services provided by the RFDS. Thank you to all who made this possible.
While we appreciate the support we receive, our commitment is ongoing. One simple way to help us is to become a member of our Group. This places you under no obligation to attend meetings, but we may ask you to help out with things if you have indicated you are happy to do this. Membership is $10 per year and can be purchased at Shellie’s Shoes, Kelly Kelly Legal, The Park or the Community Library, or online via the following link or QR code.
